"Thousands have lived without love, none without water." -W. H. Auden
Shellphone is a call few chose to answer. "Put the seashell to your ear, and you'll hear the Ocean." It was a promise we all believed, and though it was partially true, we only heard our own circulatory systems. Shellphone's mission is to call back to that feeling: to bring out the Ocean within. Through the variety of media we publish: news, research, essays, poems, reflections, art, photography, simple musings, and things that can't be bound by labels, we are creating an oceanic space. A space to dabble with or dive in, in which we can reach understanding or find ourselves through deep reflections. The Ocean needs a voice, and it calls through Shellphone. It is our turn to stand up for our water, our coastlines, and our animals, in and out of their natural habitats.
Based in Egypt's Red Sea, Shellphone was initially created in 2023 by Tia William Nashed, who started coding this website the day after she dove into the Red Sea for the first time. Shellphone is meant to be a vessel for your voice, to help you become an ambassador for our Ocean. Now, Shellphone

The Tiger Cowrie (Cypraea tigris), our logo and mascot, is a marine gastropod mollusk, known for staying hard in the ocean.
It's been used as money, prized charms, jewelry, game pieces, darning eggs, and in gambling.
